Blackjack rules and payouts

Double down lets you double your bet after seeing your first two cards, but you receive only one more card. This is useful when you have 11 (a strong position) or when the dealer shows a weak card like 5 or 6. Splitting pairs lets you play two separate hands with the same original bet on each. For example, if you have two 8s, you can split them and play two hands of 8 each.
